Arrival of Autumn= Cranking up the volume (so I can just about hear the music)

September 28th, 2009 James Brady No comments

Hey there,

Well until yesterday it was a reasonably quiet week on the electronic felt  for Rssoul20  when I managed to play 10 (yes ten) mtts in one day, which considering my very sluggish volume is really pretty insane. These ranged between the 5 dollar and 22 range, (yes im a still BR nit!). I managed to cash in half of them, 3 were midfield/just after the cash. All pretty standard busts, 88 vs AK for 50 bigs in that ridic 11 dollar  17 million runner or whatever it is 250K GTD on stars, well i guess I enter it like most do with a vague dream of running hotter than you have do in the WSOP Main Event. Well 670th out of 28313, close but no cigar.lolz.

The other cashes were alot deeper into the respective tourneys. Ok firstly , the 5 rebuys 7.5 GTD. Now this is the time where I comment on how SICK UNLUCKY I AM, but worry later I talk about my present donkish tendencies  (at least theres a mix of negativity about the blog!). Anywho, I have built up a nice 95K stack with the blinds at 1250/2500 and like 300 ante i think. Average stack 85K. My table is LAG and just generally extremely bad apart from one 99.98% opr guy whos mega short anyway.

Ok so the hand, a 25x stack limps Utg as does a 50x stack in the CO. (SIGH someone  just 4 bet for their stack pre with Q3hh and crushed my JJ). So anyway yeh i pick up 55 in the sb…Now i considered raising here as the utg was limping very light. However, the CO limp stopped me from raising ( which in hindsight was a possibly an error), he had just lost a huge pot with AQ on Qxx vs AK and was now very tilty. I was 100% he would peel my raise and with 55 oop I can get pushed off alot of boards. So I took the conversative route and completed.BB checks.

Flop 584 (2d) pot around 10K.

I decide to lead for 7.5K. My main reason for doing this is usually to disguise the strength of my hand, however in these low buy in rebuys where its such a donk fest my reason for this is pretty simple: to let bad players over play their hands. I.e  J8/108/a5  for example. Also obviously with the super drawy board I think a lead is good as it charges people for draws, and thirdly as the table has been so passive there was a possibility of it being checked around which I didn’t want. So I donk and it folds to tilty cut off who has like 90K. He thinks for like 10 secs and makes it 23k. Now this is such a great spot me (due me to flopping three of the same! wooohoooo!) and fact that my lead has caused a player to over his hand therefore making himself pot comitted.

So now its an obvious jam and I do so and he thinks again for around 10 secs and calls with den den den…….83 of black. Turn 2 River A, GG BRADY. 200K pot with 90 left, average stack 85K as I said earlier. Its in the top 10 ‘ O THAT IS BULLSHIT’ rankings maybe like number 6.

Now for Part 2 of the Rssoul20 run deep(ish) story of yesterday. This time a 5.50 dollar freeze. I have 40 bigs ( I cant remember the blinds and cant find HH annoyingly. I open KJo utg, now it was not techically really utg as 2 players were sitting out (one being the sb) and at this nitty table I felt a light open was profitable. So I open and get a peel from unknown player with about 33 bigs. His range here unclear really but I leaned towards a small-mid PP.  Everyone else folds.

Flop K 67 rainbow

I lead 3/4 pot on turn and he peels.

Turn 10

Now obviously 89 got there, but thats a stretch really in terms of his range. I was afraid of KQ and poss AK but obv that I expect to be 3 bet pre. There was now around 30 bbs in there and had about 22 back and I gung ho bruce lee like decided to shove and he tank called with KQ …river Q….sigh…. and I went busto with 6x next hand. At the time,  I was annoyed because I thought it was semi-cooler at that point in the tourney. But afterwards I realised that the shove generally very bad.

Because:

1) What do I really beat that this point? I.e what I am value shoving against ? K9s? 88? 99?

2) And if he does have one of these hands, then a much better line is to check/call and poss let him overplay hands like these if he has them.

In truth it was a gambly/tired shove, a shove that used to be a big flaw in my game and obviously reared its ugly head again. I mean its not the worst line ever from me but in hindsight it’s probably not the best line pre either. So alas a mistep, I’ll take account of it and move on.

So the elusive 4 figure (maybe 5 wow that would be sick) cash eludes me for another week! Tune in next week to find out if i can do it! I was also thinking of a writing a section this blog of how annoying it is that Howard Lederer (or Coward Folderer as some have now coined him) is like on every Poker After Dark. You watch the guy shuffle his chips for like 17 minutes out of every episode and then (stylishly) fold anyway. High stakes cash game,  Durr, Ivey, Antonius, Zigmund…….. Howard Lederer.Ermmm what? Cough must be nice to own Full Tilt Cough.

Lolz better stop ranting before i breach the 1k word count again, I’ll perhaps continue in my next installment. Anyways

BAM!

IM GONE

Cheers for reading

Best hand I’ve ever seen/winning then loosing then winning then loosing!

September 21st, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

Hello NUTZERs

1stly wp to mr Jonni Ball who took down the festival event #1 gogogogo Jonni, wanted to come play but woke up really feeling like I was going to bink a sunday major for 100k….il let you know how tht went later in this blog!

Firstly update from the EPO. Me, Ash, Rob and Criag went down ono wednesday to play the £500 side event and if for some criminal reason we didnt win we’d have to win the £250 instead. didnt get off to a great start on tuesday night i went round to Rob and WIll’s flat to rail Rob in the 300 PLO rebuy on stars – after a rather unsucessful rebuy period rob immeatiatley runs top set into top pair no draw who runners braodway and thts him GG’d 15 mins after the rebuy period ended. we elect a few drinks are in order and place a last longer sidey on the EPO i take Ben Vinson and John Eames for £10 each with Rob Joe and Will – gogogo John Eames! unfortunatley a few drinks truns into a 6 o clock hometime and far far too much to drink not great prep for a £500 comp! then ash is late to pick us up, i forget my glasses and cant see anything. Started gd n the £500 made a ridiculously high varience move early on…

goes raise UTG +2 to 400 @50/100 i call the button with QJspades, then a nitty chinese player in the SB makes it 1600. im planning to fold but then all of a sudden become aware of how strong my hand looks, and the fact that he also has a strong hand, with the right kind of flop I can win this + if I do flop a monster the money goes in 100%. so i peel, board comes A 6 4 rainbow and he counts some chips and then checks. his range here rele is very tight he has AA/KK/QQ possibly AK altho i really dont think he is likely to 3bet pre at this stage with AK knowing this player. I would expect anyone to check evrything here so the check tells me not much, call it gut instinct or slight guess work but i really felt he had KK here, he is less likely to have AA when an A hits + his body language was extremely tight, altho I dont often read much into body language unless I know the person well enough to make an informed desicion, but in general terms this is discomfort, a subconcious dislike for the situation – everything pointed to KK imo. so i lead out for 2k from a 14k stack. he thinks for a while and after counting and re countnig his chips makes it 4k from an 8k stack. this makes no sense. if he has AA here he cant possibly be raising because its so unlikely for me to have a hand, and from the way he counted his chips out I believed he was trying to make a really cheap rescue attempt of the hand, so without thinking too much of it we go allin basically representing AK/AA, i know i would ordinarily peel with these hands in this spot – but having only Q high I cant risk him spazzing out and jamming the turn – also I am fully confident there is no way he can contintue with KK in this spot from the way I have played the hand. he ainfully tank folds the K and the K and I can relax again …. lol

So all in vien we bust the £500 in horrendous circumstances (UL to Ash and Rob who come 12th and 11th with 9 paid…sigh 17k up top…:(   )and off to the cash tables. we sit at a £2/£5 table and slowly grind away to about £700 when we go on a mini heater flopping 10 10 9 with 10 9 vs QQ for £400, then 3bet a regular with 67dd preflop, flop 6 5 2 he check calls an £80 bullet, check check the turn which is a 5, then a 7 on the river. This is a nothing card. an over pair which was what i really started to think he had on the flop still wins, 4 3 still wins. the hands I beat are 7 8 , 4 4 and floated AJ/A10 type hands on the flop. he leads for £200 into roughly £235. given that id biult quite a nitty image on this table this is a large bet. he wont believe for a second I have any 67 57 78 type hand, the possiblility of me having an overpair is significantly reducded by the chekc onthe turn, so his idea of my range is going to consist 95% of AK,AQ suited type hands, after a failed C bet and give up on the turn. if he was betting here for value what hand can he get £200 worth of value from that is in the range he has for me in this spot (bearing in mind his opinion of me is probably that I am on scared money a bit 0 looking as i do and having played so tight). if for example he has 99 (a hand i was really worried about on the turn) what hand can he be looking to get any value from for a pot river bet? this makes it a fairly easy call – i dont know his hand but I would expect to see J10suited KQs type hands virtually all the time. so that chipped me up to about £1.2k and feeling good.

now for the best hand iv ever seen. this scandi sits down and after chatting to him for a bit I learn his online identiy SKJPJE on pokerstas (if its the spelling!) he is awesome (important for the stroy) now im in the cutoff and there is a loose scandi fish Iv been gettng the better off all night and he raises to £15. I isolate him to £65  with 10 8 and then a SUPER nit calls me frm the button (we dont like) then the awesome scandi calls me from the SB (WE HATE) and scandi fish calls. flop comes 10 3 3 (2clubs). already gettin gugly scandi fish bets £85. this is a horrible spot now i have 3 options here and none of them are good lol I can call, see what happens after all I am likely to have to best hand a lot of the time, problem is tho if the if the nit folds, given the situation whats been happeneing and the history between me and the scanbdi fish – the awesome scandi is so likely to raise, or even worse he might call! also Im letting the fish take control of the hand which is not what i planned when we entered this pot, its important for me to stay in control of this pot because if I let the nit in behind and me get a scary turn card and the fish bets again im in an even worse spot. I can fold – saves any desicion and potential confusion on scary turn cards Kc for example, but this isnt rele a great spot to fold because I am winning so often and there is still the chance of getting HU with the scandi fish in this spot. I can raise, with the intention of getting HU with the rubbish scandi, problem here is though that given the stack sizes it makes it so easy for the awesome scandi to raise me (i have about £1.7k he has £2kish) as i turn my cards up and confirm to the awesome scandi I DONT have 10 10,plus by raising I commit to call the nits all in as he has only £600 – however this board is unlikey to have connected to him. I elect to make a really smal raise i raise to £198 i want to make it look like i am encouraging the fish scandi to shove – he has £800 total, therefore the awesome scandi acceots I have a strong enough hand to call off the £800 stack of the fish and he wont make any level 21 moves on me.

THEN IT GETS WORSE! the nits CALLS £198 from a £600 stack. THEN the awesome scandi makes it £660. the fish folds, I tank and tank and hate life – I have no choice but to fold i cant continue in the hand with the nit behind me, although from hsi body langauge it looked fairly likely he was passing…btu still impossible to call…I ask him to show he says he cant, so he takes a picture on his phone and shows me later on….he had 6 2 !!!

the raise on the flop is so fucking brilliant its unreal – here is why.

1) he knows the scandi fish is likely to spaz out and shove randomly – so by making it 80% of his stack he makes it impossible for the scandi fish to shove.

2) vs mystack after his £660 i have £1.1k behind he has £1.4k. this looks to me like a bet designed to make me think I have fold equity to a shove – the bet looks like its trying to induce. Now i could think here that because he is trying to make it LOOK like he is inducing an all in from me – that means its probably light, but then I made my flop riase look like I was trying to induce an all in from the fish – so he might be sat with A3 and genuinely convinced I have a hand to get it in with, also If i call the pot balloons to £1.5k which creates a horrendous stack to pot situation for me on the turn – so it rules out a call. also if i think he is light and shove – chances are the nit will still call and because of the bet size iwould win £100 back from a £700 investment. so i have to fold most tens and pairs 8s/9s etc aswel.

3) with the nit in the hand it makes it impossible for me to do anything as to peel he alm,ost always has either 2 club overcards or A 10, JJ etc. and will pass these hands to a large raise. this seems like a spot its unlikely to get through all that often, but because of all the dead money out there. £280 preflop and the £460 from the flop action he is risking £600 to win £740 with a move that given the play will probs work 50% of the time.

Wat we saw was some high level 26 thinking, a big stack and a LOAD of  imagination and bottle. Great hand. was nearly worth all £280 it cost me to participate….genius! Anyway i finished comfortably up from 2/5 for the trip, reclained tourney buy-ins and travel expenses and was left with a healthy profit for the two days. Not as healthy as ROB who put on a clinic in how to destroy a £5/£5 PLO table. by 5 in the morning he had the entire CLUB covered and tht is no joke lol -

so yesterday’s session. played EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!! was so confident of binking somethign huuuuge, got off a flyer biulding a big stack in the $215 WCOOP and in the second chance wcoop. also tripled up in the $55 $200k on stars…then it all went horribly wrong lol, all of a sudden cooler after cooler, we bust several 1mil gtd satelite AA<KK KK<QQ etc before loosing a 3 times the average pot in the WCOOP AK vs A9 he finds a flush….sigh we bust the brawlwith a gut shot striaght flush draw that bricked and the 50k gtd (i love tht tourney) AK vs AKss finding a flush! Then we re-build in the WCOOP and take a 35/1500 in the second chance, bust the 200k playing avrage circumstances and get a top 20 stack in the $22.5k gtd of ftp. 3 of the money i take a HUUUGE flip for the chip lead AK vs JJ and cant improve, my 10bb struggle in the WCOOP comes to an end and still have decent stacks in the second chance and the ftops mini. within half an hour we’re out of both and the roller coaster is finally over! sit down and rail rob in the 1mil gtd and the mini ftops! 5% action there baby! he is up and down betwen 10 and 40 bb in both tourneys all the time and eventualy busts 55th in the million and 88th in the mini ftops for $2k total – o wel better than nothing!!! yet another horrible crushingly dissapointing sunday!

Chris one of my friends played 4 tourneys total yesterday. a $75 PLO, the $256 sunday brawl, the $500 1mil gtd and the $50 mini ftops. results as follows.

$75 PLO 2nd for $3k, sunday brawl 3rd for $33k, 1mil gtd 12th for $12k and the mini ftops 26th for $2k. quite a good day imo. WP WP chris! sick life

Thats it for me, going to play some low/mid stakes on cake tonight and maybe go to faz’s for the 2/5 game tonight if i can be bothered ever leaving my flat again!!!

will see you tomorow for the £5rebuy gonna be awesome olly stone shoudl be making th trip aswel, also congrats to olly for 3rd in the NAPS £200 on saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The list goes on…

September 20th, 2009 James Brady No comments

Afternoon campers,

I’m just chilling on a sunday after a boozy night , so I thought this would be a good time as any to post a blog. So in the last week and a bit I’ve began to put a bit of online volume in. Ive played like 20 mtts (lolz at low volume) and due to the continual small roll the buy ins ranged from 5.50 dollars to 22 dollars.

Firstly, the standard in these micro/low buy in tourneys other than the 5% of pros/ tourney grinders who play them is absolutely DREADFUL. Getting 55 in pre like the second hand of the tourney seems a pretty standard line (it was good!…vs AK obv). Thus, my approach to these tourneys to simply play for value as people just chip dump left, right and centre. People just do not know to play pre flop and peel out position with literally anything suited ignoring stack size/image etc. So its literally a case of  barreling for value.

So despite my low volume, I still managed to pick up 6 cashes. One of them was an 83rd in 5500 runner field in an 11 dollar freeze. Standard 30x pot with AQ vs 99 and I brick. These big field sizes are extremely annoying in regard to Stars micro tounrneys however it really is just the case of being the nature of the beast. With my roll and bankroll management, I simply have to put up with these field sizes until i pick up a cash of 1/2K so I can then move up a level in buyins to the 22 dollar – 55 dollar range. And despite their ludicrous feild sizes, as I explained earlier I do feel I have a massive edge in these micro buy in tourneys.

Anywho onto the actual cash/deep run that I wanted to talk about. On thursday I played the 22 dollar 5k GTD FO, which picked up 1k runners (much more managable). I managed to get to the final 50 with a 35x stack after just picking off bad play and when the blinds got up winning a big race with 66 vs AK, i jammed 16 bigs from button after CO opened 2.5. Flop 868. Its a drawing hand mate! So from this point I started to open alot more as play was tightening up alot and raises with easy raise/fold hands like J9 /Q8s were getting through a good amount of the time.

Then with about 25 left a big stack got moved my left, at this point I was about 9 out of 25 with about 40 bigs and the guy (who I think was chip leader) had about double that. He started to open like 9x every hand, basically asking people to put their tourneys on the line if they wanted to play (similar to Jerry Yang in 2007 WSOP Main Event FT). So at this point, I decided to tighten up pre as he was also peeling raises alot and I didn’t want to be OOP in marginal spots versus a fish who wasn’t really folding.

With about 20 left I lost a 25x pot with AJs when a shortie from button jammed 12 bigs and I snapped and he had somehow found KK. Anyway, like 3 hands later I picked up A9 of blue and raised CO 2.5. The donkey big stack on my left…peeled. Now this range here is like soooo wide,  I actually felt he could have peeled with premium pairs or literally like j7o. Anyway flop is 822 (dry as) and I c bet like 60% of pot and he peels. Turn is Q giving me nut flush draw, now a Q cannot really hit him (Q8?) , so i decided to bet again, with this bet I was basically committing myself. I was tempted to check turn but to be honest I  would have no idea what to if he bet. Anyway I bet like 60% of pot again leaving myself like 15x back and he peeled again!

The river is a 2 so the board is now 822Q2. With 15x back I HAD NO IDEA what to do. This was such a messy spot really. So I made a strange decision to check (thinking about it I probs should shove) and he insta checked behind with…KJo ( sosoososoos bad for him). haha…which you know was a good sight. I then won a 30x race with JJ vs AK, and with 14 left I was chipleader.

So now with 360 K and blinds at 3.5/7k, this hand happened. (PLANCER is above donkey btw)

…SIGH. Like this hand kinda sickened me for 2 reasons. Firstly, the obvious, if i win i have like 550K and the next stack has like 280 with 13 left. Secondly, I put him on this hand pre flop! When I opened from 2nd and he peels after the KJo hand from earlier, his range is easier to define. One of the players behind took like 40 seconds to fold so it gave me time to really define his range in my head as best as I could. So what can he have?

I think with Aces bigger than mine (AJ-AK) he never flats there with his stack. And the same goes for pretty much all pocket pairs, I literally think he jams 44 up there.

POSSIBLY, a huge hand like AA/KK. This did is cross my mind. However, my hand is an AA blocker and I can’t see him peeling pre with QQ/JJ/1010. SO KK maybe? But probs not.

When I thought it more, I decided he has either the ace rag/ ace rag suited range or KJ/KQ range. To me with his image and game , these hands make more sense. They are hands that he does not want to fold but also ones not want to ‘go all in with’. I said to myself by the time the small blind had folded that I think he has like maybe KJ again. So when that flop comes and he mins by C bet I’M like ONE time and close my eyes and hope! GAYEST TURN EVER!

After that I shoved AQ for 14 bigs and got called by 99 and lost. I then grounded up 4x to 9x and shoved 64c (with people folding literally everything with 12 left) and got snapped by 88! Why cant he just have AK so I’m live?! I even turned a flush draw on AQ102 but nay. Haha poker is hilarious. 12th out of 1043…

Winner got 3.3K and that literally is the world to me atm in poker terms. The 182 dollars I received was more an insult than a prize! So as the title says the list of like 10-20th finishes goes on and on. But as I mentioned before in my first blog, I’ll just keep grinding and I know a decent cash is somewhere in the horizon. LET THE GRIND CONTINUE!

As I write this, I’m just breezing over the field that Skyesy played with in the £1k NLHE WSOPE Event 1 and laughing how big time he now is! Anyway im off now, fml just looked at the word count and this blog got rather lenghty, apologies for that, I’ll try and keep it shorter next time I come 12th (wink wink).

Right im off to the nurse a rather sore head,

Cheers

Brady

sigh….level 6

September 16th, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

so. the target was to make level 6, and by good fortune I achieved this by 3 minutes lol – basically I played horrendous on my exit hand – so,so bad!

End of level 5 sets me a bit tilty by loosing a 12k pot 44 vs 10 3hh leaving me with 12.3k (plenty of chips btw) first hand of level 6 raise 9 10 suited freom the button, get check raised on a dry A high board and just jam! he calls with AQ saying “you;ve probably got a set but I call anyway” sigh no miracles and im here typing – honestly I dont know why i bother with these trips! had built up a decent sized stack aswel am absolutley gutted! its such a terrible tourney move the 0% equity bluff for pretty much ur whole stack…siiiiiigh

I am trying to secure a lift back to leeds/might get the train – failing tht il just grind the cash tables and hopefully wont tilt too bad!!!

Stil lstruggling to believe how bad that hand was!

September 12th, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

Very frustrating session.

fell by the wayside in virtually everything tonight (as you may have guessed being that its 11 and im bust from everything!)

Trying to get good at online tourneys is slowly making progress played alright tonight with a couple of silly mistakes (bust deep in the $3rebuy on ft in stupid fashion 55 vs 99 AI on a A 2 2 board brgh) but all in all very aggressive and biult some nice stacks up.

Gonna go back to the bread and butter now and grind some cash been playing 1/2 PLO on Cake and doing alrite – will put graph and a few interesting hands up.  So far though this has been a pretty bad week, but probs gonna bink the sunday million tomorrow and that’ll make it better!!

Interestly if someone is looking for a good training site i’ve been watching some videos from leggopoker.com and they have been pretty helpful – www.leggopoker.com – oneof the guys who coaches for it has moved in next door (handy ;) so thats been useful, seriously though well worth checking out!

Gl everyone keep winning

Hey

September 8th, 2009 James Brady 1 comment

Hey there my name is James Brady and a few of you on this forum will be know me as ‘brady’ or ‘the bradedog’ or some other version of my surname, for those who don’t know me…. greetings. Ive been playing poker seriously for about 18 months or so. Online I play on stars under the alias Rssoul20 (its either restless soul or arsehole however you wish to interpret it).  Ive swung from sit and goes to small stakes cash (25/50c , 50c/$1) to small stakes mtts. I have enjoyed  decent success at mtts with 21K prizes and 10K profit (93% ROI)  over a fairly small volume of 520 mtts. In reality last August is when I really began to take poker seriously (before this is was a reg at the 10/10p cash game at rileys at uni! Which is where I met jamie sykes anyway more about that later).

Anyyywaayy back to last August, one saturday where the night before i had consumed at least 15 units of alcohol I decided with a ever decreasing 500 dollar roll to play the 8 rebuys… 8 and a half hours later i was 7200 dollars richer…bink. Two weeks later I chopped 33 freeze 3 way for 2K and dreams of playing the WSOP ME by the time I was 22 flashed before me. Then, well you know reality set in… despite being at work at the time I dedicated myself nightly to play 200 dollars worth of mtts a night and by christmas I only had a FT bubble (about 300 dollar cash) in the 22  one rebuy on add on to show for it, (shoved K10c with 13 bigs into bbs  and he has A10! GG 7K winner.

To be honest after that my volume slowed down significantly and has never picked up since (this being shown in me having played 520 mtts on stars), despite this ive managed to clock up 5 10 to 15th places finishes in like 1k runner fields or more. With 1010 vs 99 for 45 bigs (13k winner) and JJ vs 44 for 35 bigs (16k winner), KK vs 22 for 30 bigs (4k winner). I’m not complaining at all as you know its standard variance (if a bit sick), the main point I want to put across is that I have learned poker REALLY is a grind.

So now with a 1500 dollar roll ( i  constantly have to withdraw to well… live) i am going to focus and more importantly up my volume , as to be honest… I love the grind! (Until I bink the WSOP ME next year obv). Before I go (and grind) , just wanna say a shout out to skyesy, haha i remember when you played off a 60x stack in the rileys 10/10p game like it was the last money you had on earth! Now your wining and dining senoritas and 3 betting angry catalans following your insane FTOPS cash. Definition of sick life i say and one that hopefully that i can replicate in the next year or so.

Anyways im off, ill post more as I start to play more hands ( thinking of doing a hand for hand analysis thing next time i play 300 deepstack at DTD…just one of many ideas)

Anyway really am off this time

Cheers

Brady

Well…Dtd wasn’t great!

Ok, So another fairly poor show at DTD.

the £300 – Arrive just in time for level 3, briefly reach the dizzying hieghts of 11k before bumping into 77 on a 7 6 2 board with QQ. luckily aovid much damage here and am only down to like 6k. Then get it in (5.5k) with AA vs J10dd on a Ad Kd 2x board. someone else calls with A4 aswell lol so was a 27k pot coming my way, until the 3 of freaking diamonds rears its ugly head…then its find Chris and hit the bar! elect not to play Cash and im with a couple of people I havnt seen for a while so elect to have some drinks and play a home game! ! ! The game gets kinda silly and we have £800 in [;ay before too long…luckily i overcome -£200 to end up £15 in profit (obv we flip and I loose!) so break even but fuck it had a lot of fun!

Sunday starts and Bernado and Rob are still in the £300 so me criag Ash and chris go to tFrankie and Benny’s for lunch, we decide for comedy value to flip to decide what we order…I manage to fade a mixed grill on the end and get a 14oz Sirloin with tiger prawns (yay) Criag runs bad for the little italy muscles then looses the flip for the bill! sigh craig!

So pretty tilted right now dpont wanna play cash – gonna rail rob who is still in the £300 sat with a pretty healthy stack, if he wins we’re probs just gonna stay in notts and go on a wild wild night! Ash is still in the £150 with loads of chips and me and craig are sat here wondering what it feels like to win!

All i n all not bothered abou the weekend, didnt play badly in either event ran pretty bad and with sa few breaks would probs have done alright. -£500 +expenses but hopefully rob will bink … O well there is always next week! Plan for next week is to get my internet fixed then own somew online MTTs!!! then play the naps game like mad try and grind some money up for our next DTD trip a week this wednesday for the £500 EPO side event! WHY DO I DO IT TO MYSELF!!!!

GL guys gonna play the club tuesday hopefully!

Getting up for work.

September 6th, 2009 Jamie Sykes No comments

After reviewing some info in Hold ‘Em Manager, I found that my best ROI is in the mornings, and that i start to spew off at like 11pm ish. So I had a look online to see what goes on in the early morn’. at 9am (GMT+1) there is a $109 turbo on both stars and ftp…. PERFECT! not only is that the very earliest I will EVER get up now I don’t have to clean windows (don’t ask), but I love turbos and am very good at them. According to teh stats available to me, they are my most consistent form of income.

So my alarm goes off at 8.30am this morning and I wake up to unregister ‘cos I can’t be bothered. But after I’ve turned the light on and had a drink I suddenly feel much more alert and decide to play. I go out first round fo the stars tourney AKss vs 99 AIPF. I then bust in my $55 turbo 90 man sng on FTP and amstarting to feel slightly disbaraged and wishing I was still in bed, so I unregister from everything else and just single table the “Turbo Hundo” which is a $109 turbo with $20k GTD on Full Tilt. going deepish and I’ve got 7xbb with 70 left. Then… go on a huuuuuuuuuge heater and am chip leader with 37 left, 27 paid! make it to the FT, lose a few big flips and im 5/7. but then I realise that my BB is a super baguette and jsut keep shoving into him any2. and all of a sudden I’m chippo again with 4 left. get to heads up with the only good player, hes sat on 260k and ive got 145k ish, 5k/10k/1000 blinds. first hand of HU i have JTo and he min raises, as he does every hand, so I jam it in. he ponders and calls with KJ…. JJ9A4 board seals my fate. 2nd for $3′580. Not a bad mornings work eh?

Poker España, literally.

September 5th, 2009 Jamie Sykes No comments

Sorry I haven’t been blogging much lately, as some of you know I’ve now moved to Spain, so with that and the FTOPS I’ve been pretty ridic. busy lately. Nevertheless, here I am.

At the begining of August came the FTOPS on fulltiltpoker.net, and as always I hammered the volume. It’s a series of poker tournaments with huge fields and therefore huge top prizes. Before this series I had made 1 final table in these tournaments, but due to some play bads on my part, went home in 8th position when I was 2/9. Pretty silly when there’s $37′000 up top. Yeah I know.  The value in these tournaments is incredible, granted all the sick players are involved, but that only makes up <10% of the entire field, leaving a good 90% baguettes. As you know I finished 6th in event #1 for $37′600, which allowed me to play alot of the FTOPS events that I may not have played before. It didn’t go well. I effectively bubbled 3 events, including the $550 main event after having 70xbb with only 100 people to go till the money…. SIGH. I came to the conclusion that I was playing far too much and ended up not playing my best, infact I’m pretty sure I was playing terribly.

But that’s fine! Because a break gave me time to sort my head out and do some serious partying, after all, I did leave the FTOPS $33′000 in profit which is plenty for alcohol+. So I went to Belgium for a music festival, went to Leeds Festival when I came back, and some baller nights out made me feel much better. Highlights being staying in the Marriot with Tom Macdonald and the woman asking cagily whether £260 a night is OK….. and was met by a roll of £50’s and a jolly grin on my face. Or even drinking in teh Marriot bar and people looking on in pure amazement as we flipped for bottles of their finest champagne and offered to buy their rounds (lol). BTW I lost every flip lol.

So after a few weeks of being a ridiculous spend-bot, It’s off to Spain. I went out with nothing but a hotel that I’d booked the night before the flight, and a sense of undying optimism. The optimism paid off as we managed to wangle a huuuge apartment overlooking the Med. and a nice little grinding balcony for me :) . Poker hasn’t started well, but haven’t played much, just a few sngs that im breaking evens off and losing at MTT’s.

My new monitor arrives on wednesday so that’s when I’ll really start grinding. Hopefully I won’t hve to deal with trying to explain to my maid in spanish why i was walking about in the nude, and trying my very best not to get arrested for sexual harrasment. Fun times. So basically my plan is, huge volume at $339 man sngs and every mtt up to $163 buy in with teh occasional $216 thrown in there. + some red wine, chorizo and 4.80 Euro crates of Amstel and we’ve ot a recipe for fun fun fun.

I’ll let you know how it goes. P.S Good luck to every1 that’s going to DTD this weekend especially Lil D, he deserves a big score.

P.P.S going to play the $2k poker espana ME at the end of this month with Ash, so I’ll let you know how we do. x
