A good end to August..pokerwise.

August 27th, 2009 Ash Mason No comments

Well, on the 21st i went down to london to meet up with some friends from uni and hav a couple of nights out. We go out in leicester square – right where the empire casino is – and i manage to resist the temptation to go gamble. It comes to sunday and i was supposed to be playing a £50 rebuy satelite to the WSOPE £1k event in september. but he doesnt get back to me and my friends go to their various homes to i get the train from kings X back to york and go home.

I get home, log onto stars and tilt and see whats occuring. i reg and play the sunday mil on stars, bust after not too long; a 55 on stars, bust; a 150 on tilt, bust; the 750k 216dollar buyin fulltilt version of the sunday mil, bust…. no.. wait.. CAME 4TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then the following day, i play only 2 tournies. a 216dollar 6max turbo and the brilliant 55 dollar KO 6max superturbo. cash in both!

the next day i play a 10 tourney session, cash in 2. one of which i won – a satelite to the FTP $3k package to the barcelona leg of their spanish poker tour inc money for travel and hotel! a hehe!

good start to august with the DTD final table, sketchey middle, but a good sprint finish towards the end.

Life at the coal face

August 19th, 2009 Jonni Ball 1 comment

While some people go looking for diamonds, others of us are left at the coal face, grinding out at lower stakes. Its fun enough, and some of us win a little, some of us lose a little and some donks less fortunate people lose a lot; but they’re still relatively small sums.

Personally, I currently think I’m trying to build up my roll. The hard way of course, mostly by MTT grinding. PKR is good for that; smaller fields, a greater proportion of tournament donks, relatively easy to ITM and keep a steady return, while the times I go deep, they kick me up to a decent +ROI overall. I can manage to keep my swings fairly flat.

Since I started at PKR on 2/12/2006, I have deposited a total of $1750 and taken out a total of $12020. That money’s gone mostly to paying the mortgage, living expenses and towards some holidays, in that order. A steady if unspectacular return over 3 years.

But at the moment I’m trying to build up a substantial roll for the first time. This roll started with an $85 investment at the beginning of June. I ideally want to hit a steady $10k+, maybe try and cream a bit of reward money for getting there, then go higher.

Trouble is, I get marooned. Stuck around a range. At the moment it seems to be $1050-$1400. Whatever I play, MTTs, SNGs, ring, my swings are between these margins – I’ve even got a little step at $1250 I keep returning to time and again.

So yesterday, I had my first blank day since I can’t remember when. Not one ITM in an MTT or SNG, just a couple of bubbles and few close ones. Today, I’ve ITM in 3 of my 5 MTTs, a 2nd and two 3rds, enough to get me right back into the middle of my range, but no 1st place in the higher value one to catapult me up.

This is my poker dilemma. All that time and hard work, brain power and stress, for essentially? … nothing. For long periods of time.

But maybe, that next big tourny, is the big one. The boot up a rung. Or maybe, just maybe, even the first diamond in the coal face?

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

August 19th, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

So Kinda had a rough week.

Recently (within the last 3 months) I kind of hit a sticky patch in proffessional life. Without excessive detail and was beggining to feel that me and the team of people I worked with (3 others) were getting a very different vision and it frustrated me. So i dedicated more and more time to poker until  Ifind myself playing virtually 95% of the time, with 2-3% left for any work. My plan however was to try and get set up on my own, get a bit of stability behind the poker – so I found me a Fish and Chip shop and decided to buy it! After weeks of planning, found the perfect manager, pricing up re-brands, re-designing the whole shop it just came to the sticky point of getting some cash ( i was short some money and approached the banks) and was told i could get this loan easily… The other day i go to sign the dotted line and it transpires a petty  argument i had with Vodafone over £60 last year has been reg’d as a default on my credit file…gg loan request

After 3 days of trying it seems unlikey that it’l get taken of the file in time for me to put the deal through…so looks like a river check fold on this occasion – ABSOLUTLEY DEVESTATED, espcially as if it wasnt for some money i have lent out wich i cannot recal, Id have enough to do it. Really upset – but as the great Winston Churchill Said “failure is not fatal – it is the courage to continue that counts” and il have the start of my empire soon AND THIS IS A FACT!

Also would like to take this oppurtunity to send my thoughts to the nutz’s Thad Henderson, I think Thad has shown extraordianry spirit and I personally am quite inspired by this – some things are much much more important than poker and business loans. Hopefully Thad will pick up my best wishes and hope to see him back terrorising the Nutz card club before too long!

So back to grinding away @ the poker tables! Quick report of how i’ve gotton onthis week

Sunday, played…$109 18.kgtd, the $75 $18.5k gtd, the $26 $34k gtd, the $163 50k gtd, $129 FTOPS#24 $75 $40kgtd, $535FTOPS ME, 2x $109 FTOPS ME satelites, the $59 25kgtd STurbo KO, the $20rebuy $19,500gtd

Total Winnings = $0.00 … gg lol  didnt actually play badly in all truth, made maybe 2 poor desicions throughout but played solid and lost a couple of VITAL VITAL flips approuching deep stages, and took a few unlucky/cold hands in a few comps….then backed this up with another stella – $500 day on monday!

Il leave you with this thought lol from Albert Einstien (This would seem to suggest he was a poker player too lol) …

Jeff Eke = HERO

August 16th, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

Hey,

Just got in from my first live outing in a while…decided id ditch the optical torture of staring aimlessly into computer screens and go look into the whites of peoples eyes lol (not that I have a. played at all really the last 3 days, or b. have a clue what they whites of anyones eyes mean!) So £50 freezeout  @ Alea seems ideal, I can walk, socailise and get nice a drunk! Strawberry HillPunchs ftw…thr barman there ridicules me everytime I order a strawberry daquiri (as if its a womens drink….uncooths!)

Anyway i get to alea and it transpires only 2 people showed…so no tourney – Alea really need to sort their lives out with comps, Gala and Naps between them must be making £50k+ a week of the poker community in leeds, yet Alea seem to distain from wanting any of this action…mayeb some people dont like money lol SO ANYWAY off to GALA for a £10 dbl chance yay!

Sit down in seat 10 (sigh so can only see half the table…) get myself next to a reg and we chat away idley for a while and somehow i get my money in with 72dd and end up with 3 mroe diamonds down ( = FLUSH if your not following lol) I am delighted to see the smily/wobbly presence of Mr Jeff Eke at the table opposite – who has aparently after an afternoon cheering the TOON on (GOGOGOGOGO AMEOBI!!!) and a bottle of wine has made th trip to leeds for a few hands of poker – wat a pleasant day!

Jeff managed to pull off an incredible move (alas i miss the first half of the hand but basically he finds himself in a 3handed pot, one person has 700 behind and the other has 17k, there is roughly 15k in the pot, after a minute of pretending to drunkedly think tht it was someone elses turn to act while he thought of what amount to bet (nothing gets past me big guy ;) ) and asking everyone how much they have Jeff leads for 9k, the women with 17k folds and the guy with 700 folds (super chump btw) as we explained at the time, because the guy with 700 left telegrahped his draw so explicitedly (flush draw) it was clear unless he’d made a goofy pair at any point in the hand he has no hand, it was also clear that the women doesnt call thin, is scared of the personto act behind and is not quite higer level enough to realise he has no hand… soo basically this is a FREEROLL bluff! he is fairly sure the women will fold, and the guy has goofed his hand and has only 700 left but it he decides to call with K high as he is sooo commited (which he should btw ) then it only costs Jeff 700 to have a stab at wining 15k…gamblers will know this is +++++++++EV even though it works so infrequently!! anyway they both fold and JEff triumphantly reveals 9 7 (for 9 high) and i have to restrain myself huggin him WP Jeff…still in with 10 left when I bust in 11th (sigh @ buble-bubbling) so glglgl hope to hear you took it down, best player left in the comp and a decent stack so should have done well!

As we speak Ash has managed to fall asleep in midst of a PLO rebuy and min cash…gg ASH!

Gonna play a decent sized MTT session online, will defo play the sunday million, the 1/4million, the mulligan, the KO FTOPS along with regular favourites the $109 18k gtd/18.5gtd 6max the 22kgtd and probs the 50k aswell as all the $3-30rebuys and $26 freezes….lets GOGOGOGO

Me and Ash are planning a few trips in september – Jamie is being deported to spain where Lumberjack shirts are more accpetable!

I think the schedule will look somethign like this altho me and Ash havnt rele talked it through yet lol

5-6tj September DTD £300/£150 £80/£20k gtds

Sept 12-13th Liverl CBMPT £500 GALA

Wednesday 16th-friday18th DTD EPO side events £500/£250 (if bust £500 lol)

Saturday 19th-WHENEVER(!) – £1k WSOPE event #1! BRACLET 1time

Online Sucess…but…WHERES MY BLOWJOB?

August 12th, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

Hey all,

So my break is over offcially! still havn’t managed to bring myself to play live yet, was going to on saturday but Ash shows up out of the blue outside my flat at 8′o’clock and insists we’re going out! I have a few errands to run so Ash sits in the bar below my flat and plays some PLO whilst drinking alone….lol

Back to the night out later, decided to put some hours in online this week and grind some MTT’s…Sunday got off to a slow start, not got loads of cash on ftp atm so reg’d to about $500 worth of comps and a few sats to the 2 FTOPS events (not going to buy in) manage a min cash for $38 in the $26 $21k KO and to bink a seat to the FTOPS #11 $322 d/s freezeout. Then have a good run in the $109 18k gtd, but played a really bad hand at a crucial time and finish 10th for $700 still locked some profit in! decided I couldn’t be bothered with the Ftops so unreg’d and freerolled myself for a full MTT schedule on monday – poor day monday, managed a min cash in the $75 22.5k for $120 and took down 2x $22 Trubos for $99 a piece but ended down abiout $500.

Only reg’d for 4 tourneys yesterday, the $163 50kgtd, the $26 $21k KO, the $75 22.5k 6MAX and the $55 $20kgtd. Lost a couple of horrible flips early doors in the 50k and bust early, managed a 135/850 in the 22.5k mincashed the 21k AGAIN and binked my way past SICK REG AFTER SICK REG for a 4/673 finish in the 50k for a nice $8,863….devestated not to win though, bust to TravestyFund, Ftops winner with $1m+ ftp winnings A6<56 turns a straight.,…sigh O well il live!

Anyway enough poker lol saturday night out, celebrating Jamie’s bink starts off with jamie trying and failing to buy everyone at the first bar a drink…with one guy saying “tell him not to spend all his Dad’s money he’ll need some for school dinners” LOL ye mate gg because Jamie sure is worried about how to pay for lunch right now, I think the morale of the story here is a) is -EV buying people you dont kow drinks (but its fucking balla ;) ) b) when you get offered a drink take it ffs hello free stuff….EVERYONE LOVES FREE STUFF? dont they?

Anyway, then after a great night out with me, jamie, ash, a ramdom from knaresborough who fell asleep in evrybar before dissapoearing and Rich Hawes – for those of you who dont know him a full time grinder from leeds (told us he wasnt going out he’s given up drinking… and we catch him drinking alone on a saturday night…lol not my place to comment!!

Really funny story me and jamie got ourselves into an odd spot lol (ladies look away!) I made a joke early on in the night that if i can find a stripper to give me a blowjob for £80 Jamie will pay, he said he would be happy to – obv we’re all joking here, the joke carries on a bit then in the strip club I continue the joke but with an actaul stripper as a prop!! however jamie for some reason thinks its a genuine request to borrow £80…to get a blowjob…gives her £100 and sits back down expecting change (lol change)

of course i dont ever

SEE THIS £100 or

GET A BLOWJOB

wp jamie

not goign to be able to make the satelitte tonight unfortunattley put il probs hit down to gala about 11-midnight see if the game is worth crushing lol

glglglgl all!

Rubdown City!…Winning = playing well? Not Always

August 7th, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

So Im on a break lol…A time to reflect, evaluate and learn….

reflections/evaluations/lessons so far….

1)My flat can’t possibly get any cleaner

2) I have over washed my all my clothes

3) It really isn’t quicker to make Toast in a George Forman Grill than in the toaster!

Yes I am SOOOOO bored right now its driving me insane! This is until Thursday morning, I was planning on having a dabble in the FTOPS myself, but as im “on a break” I allowed Jamie to use my account to play event 1…I go to bed wednesday night not really thinking too much about it, until a phonecall at 8oclock thursday from Jamie telling me he is still in! So me, ash, Jonni and a more than qualifed railing team rail Jamie all the way to a 10million chip pot 6handed where he gets 2-outed for possibly $150k

Nevertheless STUNNING run Jamie well played mate! Not only did I have to WATCH my own account final an FTOPS, but i now have to watch £12k enter and leave my personal account in a flash! Not all bad though because I get a t-shirt for free (Jamie knocks out Jim Macmanus, who is not only a cock, but shit at poker WP jamie!)

So I decide i’ll have a break break and go chill @ gala for a few hands and maybe try to just halt the downswing a tad! I meet craig and we have take a seat for some £0.50/£1 Fun (yay!) I double up virtually immeadiatley with Aces vs AJ on a AJ10 board (wow a run good lol) then this hand occurs…

I have KK, there is a limp md position I make £7.50 off a £280 stack, I get 2 callers. Board comes J 5 7 rainbow. The limper (who I dont like btw!) bets out for £9, I raise to £28, he calls almost immeadiatley. Turn comes a 9, he leads almost as the card hits the table for £14. I think for a second and Raise to £75 (!) he calls pretty much instantly. River comes a 5, and he instantly goes allin for £180 (just covering me) I think for ages, then he says “I know you have none of it, your folding” obv i instantly throw the kings after this comment and he says “ye i knew you’d fold!” I offer him £50 to show me a bluff (I have my 2x£25 chips ready – like im ever giving these away lol) he flips the 8 of clubs – now im starting to worry that I am going to loose £50!!! the the 5 of diamonds! He then says that he thought he played the hand well and that he knew I had nothing…allow me to explain why this is the worst played hand you see in a cash game, and that at no point in the hand does he play it right!

1) the limp – this s probably the best bit of the hand, but for the record if you limp 8,5 offsuit early pos in an agressive cash game frequently YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR MONEY FAST – bad play!

2) the call – an renowned agro player raises (me lol ;) ) and gets 1 call from a tight player no the button. he is putting £6.50 into £17.50 – THIS IS NOT VALUE, this is playing a terrible hand out of position against am agro and a nit, the worst place to  be in poker. – TERRIBLE PLAY

3) the lead on the flop – so you;ve played 8,5 badly so far and managed to flop bottom pair, he bets out – for what purpose, whenever you bet it should be either a)for information/protection/isolation, b) as a bluff, or c) for value… Its a poor spot to bet for information, becasue I can raise/call with virtually any hand in the deck on such a dry board with only a nit to act behind me. Cant be a bluff because he has a pair! and exactly what hand is he getting value out of? 56? 45? 44? the bet achieves nothing, its a check/call or check/fold 100% of the time.

4) He calls the flop raise – out of position with no information on my hand, If i have a hand its 100% gong to be better than his, if I have air, then virtually every card over a 6 is a scare card on the turn! This really is why you should never play bad hands out of position vs a agro player.

5) LEADING THE TURN! – this is the worst part of the hand. 9 on the turn seems to be a complete brick to me, what hand can he possibly have that this card improves, 99 or J9…possibly – but im not expecting him call a flop raise with 99 (obv he would have done lol in hiesight) so he leads for £14 into £80! again think what this bet is trying to achieve, It must be a bluff in retrospect, but its a bluff which only works if I have 2,3/3,4 lol AWFUL bet, now Im feeling 100% brilliant at this point in hand, and he seems interested in the hand, so I raise to £75, an over-raise to the bet, but aout right in comparison to the pot.

6) CALLING THE TURN! – this is joint worst part for sure, he calls instantly aswell with no thought about what he has, the kind of equity he has with bottom pair and a gutshot, the kind of hand i have, a blind thoughtless call – Its impossible to say if he thinks he’s ahead or not/cant let go/drawing…who knows, he certainly didnt tho!

7) Shoving the river – So the board pairs, and this is either fantastic for me (set of Js or 7s now HOUSE!) or this is terrible for me, over pair/AJ/Bluff. HE shoves immeadiatley £180 into over £200. In spt i can literaly call with a full house or better. he bet/calls…bet/calls…shoves ****MASSIVE HAND**** he kills action from the hands he has outdrawn and makes it an easy call for the hands that have had him crushed all the way – wats the point in getting lucky?

8) TALKING – so its still a tricky spot for sure,,,until he says “I know you have none of it, I know you’re folding” LILD toptip….when older live players talk like this to younger players….they have the goods!!!

9) Rubbing me down afterwards about him “knowing I was weak” If you get lucky you get lucky, i make bad calls and get lucky plenty of times, but I take the chips, stack them up and try to realise that I played the hand badly and avoid making the same mistakes again – because next time I know I wont be so lucky.

This isnt a bad beat story, I analyse my own hands with the same level of scrutiny and honesty, but this is truly one of the worst hands i have seen played – the good thing is though, this guy thikns he played it well! Looking forward to getting my money+some back next time he is around! a further indication of how little he thought the hand through is he said that he would fold to an allin on the turn/he thought I had none of it…gd line mate! ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN espciazlly out of position!

Anyway this aside Ash has made the lonely trip to luton by himself (15% 1TIME!!!) and Il keep track of his progress and keep you posted!

Gl everyone !

An interesting tourney hand from the dtd 300

August 6th, 2009 Ash Mason 1 comment

most of the 300 at dtd was fairly standard. i wont bore anyone with standard allins with ak vs qq or that kind of boring tourney stuff.

but heres quite an interesting hand which i quite enjoyed.

its the second day of the tourney, we are on the approach to the money so time to apply some pressure.
of the 8 other players on the table, 3 were decent. one was sitting 2 to the right to me, so no biggy. one was sitting to the imidiate left of me but was a tight player so it was easy to just get out of his way when he entered a pot. and the other way at the exact oposite side of the table. he was a very aggressive player, new to the table, but seemed competent but not brilliant. – which is important.
the rest of the players were the usual live players who wouldnt play back at you unless they had the goods.

blinds are 2k/4k with a 400 ante.

cards are dealt, and under the gun is the first good player who folds. everyone else folds round to me.
i look down at ace 6 off.
take a glance around at the table, the aggro player is in the sb. so im good for a raise. if he were however on the button, i wouldnt raise. he could far to easily 3bet me with any old trash in possition.

anyhoo, i make it 10.5k – 2.5bbs

it folds round to the guy in the sb who reraises to 30k. folds back to me.

stack sizes, i have around 200k, he has a little more but not much. the average stack is about 100k.
back to the hand.

what range of hands is he 3betting here? 99 and less i think he calls and trys to flop a set, 10s through to Aces he raises exactly like he has. he also raises ace king, and ace queen suited for sure. ace queen off.. maybe. also he has a random bluff of a hand, at least 10% of the time.
what are my options? call raise or fold.
a call is obv terrible here. folding is fine and is what i would do most of the time. but i could also raise…
the pot has 10k initially, + 10.5k from me + 30k from him.
so a little over 50k in it already with the average only 100k. so if i can take this pot down here and now it is very valuable to my stack.

one thing that i had noticed about this player was he had been raising a lot and running over the table completely. he d been on the table for a while and we hadnt seen his cards once. he seemed decent – but not great.

with 50k in the pot and if i considered raising, there is only one size i could make it. all in.

so, whats he calling an all in with? obviously aces and kings.

is he calling with queens?
in live poker, getting all ur chips in with queens in this spot almost always means ur up against aces, kings or ace king. thus queens is clearly a fold. and i thought this player is good enough to realise that. even if he sees i have ace king, he has no need to risk almost all his chips in a coinflip situation when he can win chips so easily if he preserves the weapon he has, his big stack. the same can be said for ace king, no need to risk it.

so, he folds out qq, jj, tt, ak, and obv aq. + all the random bluffs he has at least 10% of the time.
he calls with kings and aces.

he has qq, jj and tt, 6 times each. ak and aq 16 times each. except i have an ace, so he only has these 12 times each.
so he folds 18times + 24 times + 10% of the time he raises.

he has kings 6 times and calls. aces (i have one ace) 3 times and calls. when he calls with kings i have still around 30% equity, whereas vs aces i have only around 5%

so in total he calls 9 times and i win 1.9 times. (30% of 6 = 1.8 + 5% of 3 = 0.1)
and he folds 42 times + his bluffs, lets say around 48 times.

there is 50k in the pot and it costs me 190k so try and steal it. so my raise has to work around 4 out of 5 times to be successful.

it is clearly successful much more often than that. so its a profitable play.

this is how the hand plays out, i think it through for a while – knowing he can only call with the very best if i move allin.
after a couple of minutes i announce all in. when he doesnt call me instantly, i know im good. just stare off into the distance for a couple of minutes and the pot is mine.

2 mins later. he folds jacks face up.

ace 6 hits the muck.

Swings and Donk-abouts.

August 6th, 2009 Jamie Sykes 1 comment

After my £10k cash in Leeds, nothing was really going right for me online at all. I was at a lass as to where I was going wrong, I seemed to be going deep then blowing up in what seemed like standard spots. I ended up cashing over $9k in june but not even making evens. What to do, what to do.

The FTOPS events were approaching, so I decided to get some funds together to play, since the guaranteed prize pools are usually huge, and the fields aren’t as strong as they should be. So i log into my FTP acc and…. oh wait, invalid username? wtf? I check my e-mails and there it is, a “you’ve been moving money about so we’ve locked your account down” e-mail from Full Tilt. NOOO, I wanted to play the FTOPS sooooo bad. SO I ring about trying to find an account I can play on, and I’m not even sure why I was so insistent on playing, I just had a feeling I guess. So my good friend Lil D let’s me use his acc, I get another good friend Tom MacDonald to ship me $600 so I can play the tourneys and away I go, FTOPS event #1.

This was a $216 NLHE freezeout, with good blind levels and a sweet $1′000′000 GUARANTEED prize pool. with 5′715 runners I knew it was going to be a long one. I start off reasonably uneventfully, grind grind grind, win a flip vs a shorty to get up to 6k chips, then grind some more. Then all of a sudden I go on a bit of a heater, taking a few pots down then cold decking someone AK vs AT on a A,K,4,T,2 board. so now I’ve got 25k@100/200 so I’m really well stacked, but the heater doesn’t end there! I raise utg with 99, to 550 @ 120/240/25 and non other than Jim McManus (Lil Daves PLO nemesis) jams in for 30xbb!!! I think about it for a while, and think that he pretty much plays his AK face up here, and decide to race for the bounty (in FTP tournaments, if you KO a pro you get your buyin back!) he flips AK and I hold, 32k!!

I grind some more, and scoop a huge pot flopping top pair with AQdd that turns into the nut flush and get paid off, so now I’ve got a huge stack, and I sit on it, 3-betting occasionally until we reach the money. Jonni B is the only one railing at this point, and he has to go to work, and says “You’re pretty much ITM, surely you’ll be OK now…..”. A bit of a rubdown I know, but Jonni has seen me spew off a stack plenty of times, regardless of huge top prizes. But I don’t! I keep going steady and get there! people start opening up now, top 700 ish were paid, I keep checking the lobby and the numbers keep dropping. Everytime I come back from making another cup of tea there’s less people left, until all of a sudden I’m chip leader with 100 left! Holy smokes Batman!

Getting down to 50 players ish and this hand happens…. I hate QTo on teh button and a loose aggressor opens the c/o. Now usually I 3bet here, but he 4bet jammed me earlier so I decided to peel against him and outplay him post flop. The flop comes QJ2 two spades. he thinks about it for a while, then bets just over half pot. I decide to flat call because I could well have the best hand, and can extract alot of bluffs from him this way. the turn is a blank Q. Yahtzee! If I wasn’t sure about my hand strength before, I’m defo sure now, I’m getting all this guys chips! But he leads for 3/4 pot….. alarm bells start ringing, he has to be strong to make this bet. But I decide in my infinite wisdom, that I don’t want to ruin the value of my hand, and I can rep a bluff here and get insta-snapped by an overpair. So I move in, he snaps tabling 22 for bottom house. Well, gg me. until the river brings another J….. so sick, I’m now huge chip leader and just KO’d another player. down to the last 27 and I’m Guaranteed $3′000 at this point, pretty pleased with myself, and got my hungry eyes on that $195′000 top prize.

I like to open light at this stage in a tournament, but every1 gets wise and starts 3betting me to the hilt, i find one 4bet jam with A9dd and get snapped by AQ to slip into 2nd in chips. The rialbirds are getting numerous by this point, and tell me to open tight, and 3bet light. I do so and start to absolutely crush the field. I slip abit, then 4bet jam with AKcc only to be called by QQ with him at risk, the AA2 flop sorts me out and I’m chippo again. Then…… FINAL TABLE! The stuff of dreams, $12k guaranteed, top prize of $195k and I’m chip leader with no real dangerous players left. God I love my life right now. Unfortunately for me, everything goes wrong, one guy takes out 4 players then donates his chips around, so we’re 6 handed and every1 is bang on evens. I’ve been 3betting light quite alot to accumulate, only been caught once. a shorty gets it in over a raise, I pass A5, the raiser snaps with QQ and the shorty flips AJ. YES! two outs to fade and I’m gtd another $18′000!!!!!!!! boom, A river. sigh. This is the start of my run bads unfortunately, another shorty is at risk behind and doubles up, then I find KK. someone opens, I 3bet, and someone COLD CALLS behind. wtf? raiser calls, flop is Q62 rainbow. He checks I bet, cold caller smooths other guy passes. The pot is now in the region of 6M chips and ive only got 3M behind I get it in he calls and flips QQ. SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH.  So I drop to 800k, which is about 8xbb, get it in next hand with T8cc only to find JJ, which are probs good on a JJ4 flop. GG, 12 hours work and I take home a little under $38′000. My biggest ever cash, and deepest run.

Now for the rubdowns:

1. It was on Lil Daves account so he gets all the credit, and the stats.

2. They chopped it up 5 handed guaranteeing every1 90k minimum….

3. One of the shortys who was at risk goes on to win. SIGH.

But, on the bright side, still got a $38k score!!! wheeeeeeee. I’m a happy bunny. :)

Minor success!

August 6th, 2009 Jonni Ball No comments

Been hurting the last 9 days online, since coming back from hols. Generally think I’m playin ok to well, but had a few bad turns and rivers in significant pots at significant times. Bubbled twice, close bubbled at least 4 tournies with good prize pools. Still, cashed half a dozen, final tabled four … but down about $350 overall.

Tonight broke the succession, in nice style … took 1st of 139 in a PKR $10 Deep And Steep for $375! A bit of luck knocking out shortstacks from behind but never got all-in behind, and was only allin and called maybe 3 times until 3 way. A decent haul which claws back all my losses. Happy enough to do it in one fell swoop. :)

Now the idea is that the cards have turned a little for me and I can get a better chance at some good finishes in some of the bigger tournies!
