A little Connection Trouble..

July 31st, 2009 Ash Mason No comments

I have recently turned my attentions online into trying to build up a roll for $2-$4 pot limit omaha becuase a friend of mine has discovered that it is the perfect level for very fruitful returns for the savy player. Needless to say that playing without a sufficient bankroll at any level is very risky so i have been playing uber nitty because quite clearly, when you are playing off a 10 buyin roll, a pot worth 2 buyins is very important.

I recently had a pot where i raised, King-King-5-8 with one suit, up from mid possition pre flop and got 2 callers including the big blind. The flop came down King-2-3 rainbow. The big blind checks, i bet around 2/3 pot, the caller behind me raises pot, big blind folds, the guy is commited, i repot with the nuts and all the money goes in.

At this point im thinking he probably has something like 456x with a backdoor flush draw or something, so its a “race” the exact equity i havent run it through, but he would have plenty of outs.

The cards are flipped over and i see that he in fact has bottom set with 22A8 in his hand.

PRAISE BE TO JESUS!! HELL YEAAAAAAAAH!! THE GUY HAS ONE OUT!! SHIP IIITTTTT!!!!! all runs through my mind as the hand plays out and i see the turn card come out and miss him.

Then disaster strikes, the screen freezes at the point where the river is not yet out, the pot is in the middle and nothing is happening. Then from the next room i hear “oh shit i pulled the internet out” from my dad.

I panic for a moment thinking maybe i was disconnected, then realise the money was in anyway so it wouldnt matter if i was because the money would still be in my account when i reconnect. After 10 minutes of looking at the screen and knowing that nothing other that the case 2 would beat me the internet is finally up and running and full tilt kicks into play again.

I check my account and…WTF. There should be more money in there??? I check the hand history, and, in all its glory, THE UGLY FUCKING DUCKLING, the case 2.

What hurts more than getting 1 outed on the river? Getting one outed on the river which comes 10 minutes after the turn, just long enough to convince yourself it will never happen. Cheers dad.

July – Roller Coaster to DTD!

July 31st, 2009 David Nicholson No comments

So July. Been a pretty up and down month, back end of june was a tricky time, it all went wrong from the £500 Master in leeds (what a horrible weekend!) to make things worse, everyone else bar me and chris ended up big winners (execpt for the brief drunken blackjack spinup the profits of which i gave to olly!) Tom, Jamie and Ash all managed profitable weekends, and on the celebratory night you can guess who lost every single bloody flip!…anyway enough moaning! more bad runs lead into july with some serious ground to catch up!

Started well, with 3 decent tourney binks had me back above water from june, raring to go for DTD this weekend, played cash last night sat in a £2/£2 pot limit holdem game when this horrible hand crops up – il talk you through my thinking…Im in the Hijack with 99. its raised in front of me to £11 and i make the call. 5 of us go to the flop, board comes 9h Qh 4. its checked to me and i make a healthy lead into the pot for £38. UTG who raised pre-flop calls,Turn is a 10h (horror CARD!!!!!!) he now bets £90. leaving himself with £400, im sat about £500ish deep so were stacked similar….What do you all do? Let me know and il tell you what i did why I did it and what he had after someone gets it right

Off to DTD for the £300 this weekend with Jamie, ASh, Brunny, Craig and the good Mr Oliver Stone, feeling rele good about it to be honest and expecting a deep run! the key to these tournaments really is dicipline, which has let me down in the past (the masters lol enjoy my chips ASH??) ME and Ash were talking about trying to get some1 to lay us a bet that between us we NET +£5k this weekend, Anyone fancy laying that lemma know and we’ll have a dabble! with tons of play and a generally soft field il be looking to get a gd start hopefully find a couple of hands when people are much looser and begin to accumulate, this tournament IS a deepstack unlike most deepstack tournaments which are not! simply put anyone that goes out pre level 7 without getting cold decked has played very badly. Big Dave gave me some gd advice once as i was going to play a £250 @ dtd with this strucutre, he said to know how much a third of ur stack is and never risk more than that at any point (without the nutz obv) so to take this a step further wat you have to try do is plan the hand, with every bet to avoid putting more than 1/3 ur chips in, e.g. if your gonna raise pre-flop thinkabout whos likely to call, how much your going to bet the flop and if you can afford to…if not then get out and nwait for a better spot because THERE WILL BE ONE! This is the plan anyway lets see if i can stick to it!!!nyway we shall keep you posted – 28DIMES 1 MFKINGTIME!!!!

Off to grind the £20rebuy @ napoleons tonight so hopefully can start the weekend in gd form! Also congrats to WES GILL who chopped the £25+£15 @ gala last night for a monkey….WP
