Well, I spose it’s been a good week.

Poker, however did not go very well, I had some great plans but ran into a few snags.

The first nightmare i had was at the hands of my loyal and trustworthy bank Natwest (doubt i need to explain these again lol) strange I have been at Natwest since i was 12 (which, yes, is more than 3 years ago whoever was about to say that) and never had a spot of bother with them, so what on earth has happened with them over the last 6 weeks I have no idea but they messed up really badly – and I wanted to have a decent chunk of money with me over the weekend so had to go on the mega nip and ruslted some funds up.

Played Cash on friday and there was a decent chunk of action about, we got two 50p/£1 games and two £200 min £1/£2 games running, however for some reason I found myself on the worst table for the whole night and despite me constantly moving about to get to the better games as soon as i got their the games got bad, so i spent the whole evening wondering about and then when we got sat down ran AK into 22 on a AK2 board and said GG to about £600. sigh.

Saturday rolled around and I played the £500, had to pay £550 not £350 after being horribly messed about by everyone – was really annoyed someone told the guy I was buying my seat off I was skint and couldnt afford it…then I gto another seat bought but a communication mix up lost me that as well, but anyway doesn’t matter but still some dirty play somewhere in the midst of this, I wont let it bother me. Lost AQ vs KQ, and QQ vs 63 to the same guy which saw the end of me in the £550, the guy in question played terribly all day and he then went on to win the tournamnet….

Tourney play = all skill, ye sure ! ! !

Having said this I actually enjoyed myself in the masters I found everyone on my table to be really good company and the winner was a nice guy as well, so in the time I played in the comp I had a good time. Looking forward to playing another comp soon tbh.

Luckily as well I bust the tourney Just before the england game so went to see Tommy C and watch the england game and the less said about that game the better! I mean there was a player i the USA team who was RELEASED, yes RELEASED, as in, not even worth keeping him, and he wasn’t worth enough to sell, from WATFORD. yes a WATFORD cast off, and Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Terry and the £1.5m p/week guys couldn’t rustle up a win! still first game and an easy group so in a way professional job done, in other ways a terrible performance!

This leads me to the down points of my week, the world cup – now as some people may be aware Im partial to the occasional sports bet – however I have miles more sensible this year, so allowed myself the world cup to “go for it”……………

Dont want to go into details, but its going VERY VERY BADLY. ! . ! . !

My real world adventures have been going well, the Whitby project is nearly over and I’m really happy with what I’ve done. I have another project lined up for August and then I have some really exciting plans for September, Thinking of another move oversea’s not been away abroad since I got back from Cyprus in october 2008 which is nearly 2 years so Rob suggesting spending 4/6 months over winter in the states so we might check L.A out for the winter - persuading the newly minted Jamie Sykes to join as well

I think I’m going to be making a return to the online felt soon in build up to America – need to make some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Well hopefully everything’s ok @ the club and everyone’s good, saw Mr Vanzo and Mr Lee at the master’s which was really nice and Peter put in a good show so very well played to him, nice to see you both!

SIGH that I didnt see my old buddy mr Average Dave though, who I believe has now gone back to the STATES :’( See ya later Big buddy take care dude! STAY I TOUCH!

Thats about all from me – one of these days I will post an interesting blog…….maybe

Gl all

Uk poker is pretty much ruling the planet these days 2 bracelets and a 2 and 4 in the same event is a benchmark for UK MAIN EVENT winner #1, whoever that is going to be – be nice for it to be a leeds boy i.e. Rob Woodcock, but if its JP Kelly and I ship my bet that is cool also!

Not really heard much of the action from vegas, only the big tourney sweats, but im feeling absolutley devestated im not out there, but meh what can you do iv had a lovely week in whitby (sigh, such beats) now im preparing to go down south and see some family for a few days before returning to leeds, to cruuuuuuuuuush the leeds masters! Decided about 6weeks ago i wanted to spend some more time with my young cousins who I an supposedly godfather to (hahaha) I wanna be referred to as “cool cousin david” – (in the playground on a monday) “so where did you go this weekend?” “Went to stay with my cousin in leeds, he is well cool, we hired some strippers and drank beer whilst snorting coke off them all night”…I dont know exactly how to implement the “cool” aspect yet but the boy will be getting an online poker account with $250 in it to grind when he is 12.lol.

Was going to sell my NTOG shares, they got to 0.9p which would have meant a slight loss, but could use the cash and I have a decent wedge tied up in these things, but then when i actually got round to it they were back at 0.59 so fuck it, I wont be selling now! if they were to spike to 3/4p that would be fantastic

Anyway guys there is just a little update – would be really cool to see some guys from the nutz in leeds next weekend, the schedule is…

Friday – £200 freezeout

Saturday £500 Freezeout

Sunday – FINAL of the £500. £100 freezeout.

We’ll be going for drinks on sunday night for sure, and more than likely saturday night as well so will be a really good laugh, msg me on facebook or text/call me if you need some more details!

Well, no poker has been played and none will be until next weekend, so GL guys and take care.

And I would like to lead the salute to Mr. Jonni Ball, who has done wonders for manhatten poker. WP sir

so after trying to figure it out for about 6 weeks now im pretty sure Sumer is here which is incredible!

Slight beat for me, As i sit here looking out of my window over a lovely sunny day in leeds, all that Im hearing is Vegas Vegas Vegas, fml. Facebook has become unbearable as a result! Still being the balanced and loyal person I am, have managed to stop wishing illness on all my friends out there and no would like to wish them all the very best of luck! would be super sick to see one of the guys bring a bracelet home, especially one of the leeds boys! (although I would like to admit a slight smile broke out when I heard middy was sunburnt!)

Just so you heard it here, my PICK of the summer for bracelets are

1. Dave “LeKnave” Jones – just got a feeling

2. JP Kelly – Genuinely think he might make a MASSIVE impact this year. (have a sidebet with a friend that he will outcash eames and channing this yr as well )

3. John Eames – Always falls short in BIG “GET THERE” situations, so have a feeling poker god might just send him a bracelet.

?. Jack Ellwood – Its seems to be his year!…

Obviously we will be rooting HARD for all my mates, Rob, Middy, Rich H, Franky who are playing bracelet events and would be siiiiiick if someone did bink.

So had a decent week grinding after last weekends disaster and am solvent again lol am taking advantage of the weather by going away for 2 weeks, firstly off to whitby on business, then gonna go chill down south for a few days ahead of June’s Masters £500 a week on saturday. got an incredible team assembled, with confirmed attendee’s in Tom Mac (last yrs winner) Pez, chrispoker23, and ASH/Sunny Nagi still on the TBC list, so im very excited, even if we end up loosing “again” should be a rele fun weekend. Feeling very good about the tournament this time around, last year I played really well up until the stupid blow up. I lost my head and managed to spanner in a nice stack quickly. Still played the £30dbl £2k added with a billion runners on saturday as “discipline” practise and grinded my way into 32nd place, so despite wasting 8 hours of my life, feel good about that. Cash games should be incredible as well so I am really really looking forward to it. Good thing as well is I wont be playing much in the way of poker before then so will be 110% fresh – win £10k playing cash on friday, £20k in the tourney, then out to get pissed and celebrate on sunday…thinking back to last years sunday blowout, should be good fun and I encourage any of you to join us, more than welcome!

So caused some controversy in the last blog lol seems the term “stupid little nits” isnt actually a nice one, so apologies if that offended you, but then if it did, that means you ARE a “stupid little nit” in which case i doubt very much I like you, so frankly not really that fussed if your offended or not, maybe even slightly happier if you are! Not the best apology in the world, but then im not really sorry haha!

My point was anyway, its getting harder to win, live or online, so these guys have no future in the game. They add nothing to the table, there strategy is redundant, and there is no where for them to go because they cant ACTUALLY play poker. Just leave lol even though your terrible you add no value – Im pretty sure that despite the fact Im a big winner in the Gala games, I benefit the game because I create action = bigger pots = more money = better game.

Anyway, that will be all from me for the next two weeks, might post some cool hands from online last week in next blog if im bored over the next two weeks, but unlikely to play, aside from maybe a small online sesh or two, until the masters. Will blog updates and keep you all informed!

Also well played to Mr. Av. Dave who got 2 draws in the blackpool summer series as well as a FT in the PLO in coventry…hopefully see you in Leeds big guy!

Gl guys

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE, well for me !

after 7-8 hours of tirelessly unplugging my router and changing the wires around I FINALLY GAVE UP and borrowed TommyC’s dongle.

so i have internet YAY.

Got a few things on my mind this week, first thing is poker players. Some people I play with really upset me. Im gonna use the Gala game as an example, I could use my friends as examples but it would probably offendpeople by accident!

I know I kinda whine and bitch about poker a little bit – just like anyone complains about their jobs, but I do still really really enjoy playing – I genuinely love the game, i love its intricate spine – where subtle moves andalterations to bets/timing/fake tells/real tells/position can change the course of action and that you can (or at least attempt to) control these things. Getting inside peoples heads and trying to trick people intomistakes, brilliant! this is why iv re-fallen back in love with LIVE poker I think, all these great things! the thing that really upsets me about live poker and massively online as well, is the people who have turned thefantastic game into a dull and meaningless cycle of circumstances. yawn. people who play the game governed purely by EV and risk aversion (this is the live guys MUCH MUCH more than the online guys, even if thelive guys don’t know they doing it!) These guys play poker with no heart and no gamble and it saddens me to see them win. Tons of them playing live poker, and thanks to the Supernova Elite program on stars (which isincredible dnt get me wrong) online poker is crawling with them as well.

Thinking maybe this is my problem with poker, I love the game too much?? I wanna do my game and the game i’m in justice and it probably costs me money, difficult part of your personality to remove though!

On the other hand you have some real PLAYERS out there, people like Faz, Garry Fitzpatrick, My old pal Rob Woodcock, and even though its a controversial name to mention, Marc Wright! These guys are what i reallyreally like about poker. Garry for example, a really really great guy who iv known for a bit now and played a ton with, up until recently i thought Garry might have lost it a bit in the poker world, not that he doesn’t haveit any more, just that maybe he was making a decent enough living from his horse betting that he could settle into a much less inspired, slightly dull style of poker, that made money – not optimally profitable, butprofitable nonetheless. That is until the last week when Garry has been literally explosive! I have a reputation as one of the most active players in the gala game (obviously Faz wins any award that involves lunacyhands down!) but I play tons of hands, make loads of moves and even wake up with hands in spots sometimes! Most of the guys in the game think Im reckless, but as anyone with a brain will testify every play i make isof course reasoned and balanced into my overall style!

Garry this week gave me a semi-masterclass in old-school aggression, and it was cool to watch him rip the table apart a bit – he really owned me in a few spots this week where I was a bit behind the adjustments he wasmaking aas he stepped it up about 4 gears! I lost a ton of money to him but I dont think I played badly versus him at all – he cuaght the best of the cards i think, here is one hand you might find interesting,

playing 4 handed I am on the BTN and Garry in the C/O. Garry is in the straddle i make it £10 he makes it £34 I call I have A2clubs. Board comes 223. Garry bets £40 and I call. This hand is quite deep into our weeklong war and for this reason this has to be a flop call, I have not been raising any flops vs Garry, which is a decision I took as a adjustment to his unpredictably, whereas before raising with bluffs and semibluffs/merging with weaker hands was profitable with such deep stacks, now with Garry’s propensity to turn hands into bluffs, and 3bet flops much wider for value, my natural adjustment was to eliminate most bluffsand semi bluffs from my flop c/raising range meaning that I cant really have much of a flop c/raising range. My plan for this hand from the flop onwards was to call all turn bets and then either raise (call occasionally)or big bet if checked to on the river for value, in the knowledge that if Garry is checking the river after betting twice, chances are he is now either giving up or bluff catching, most of the time he bets the river will be abluff. Turn is the 5hearts (now there are 2 hearts down) and he checks, I was expecting him to bet this turn card most of the time as his range still consists mainly of overpairs in my head. I lead for £64 and he raised to£145. I have about £350 effective behind, so its quite a strange c/raise. This desicion becomes a little more difficult because Garry is aware i like to float flops a ton and on a board like this which would improve myrange more often than his it is obviously an ideal float and bet turn when checked to candidate, hands like A2/K2s/23/33/46/55 are all ion my range so i can credibly rep a house/big made hand.

This makes the turn desicion very difficult for me, because Garry is aware of my floating tendancies he is more than capable of taking this line with missed flop hands, as my range for BETTING the turn becomes quitepolorized, he would RIGHTLY expect me to check back most of my one pair hands so when i bet the turn my hand becomes a house/a 2 most of the time a bluff a bit as wel, along with the odd time i bet with a hand like45, 66, 53 for value/protection, but then i a, definatley bet/folding those hands on the turn so its comfortable for him to c/raise bluff with the majoirty of his missed hands, and c/call with most of his overpairs. Sowhen he c/raises the turn his range leans away from overpairs and more into bluffs, which make a call here much more profitable I believe as he will be c/raise folding most of the time. Most liekly AIR hands hec/raises bluffs with here are hands that pick up additional equity on the turn, so hand thats pick up HEARTS, or goofy gutshots/pairs. There is of course the chance of him turning striaghts with A4/46 which are theonly hand he c/raises for value on the turn aside from 55 imo. River the 8hearts. I have no idea whether this is a bad card or not, if he had 46 then he was already there, i didnt believe he would 3bet 46o tht oftenpreflop, so 4 combos of 46suited are still in his range, obviously all air hands that make a flush draw now have a flush, this is a massive possibility, i had ruled 88 out of his range on the turn as with most over pairs. Hebets £150 into £400. lets put the maths into this.

2.75 – 1 on a call so i need to be winning about 35% of the time. so lets assume now the only overpair he has in his range is AA with the Ahearts, ( i have Aclubs) so that leaves 2 combos of AA. He has 45 suited (5heartsdown so 3 combos) 67s (NOT HEARTS 1combo) i dont believe 55 is likely but will include it (1combo) ruling out 23/33. then HH hands that turned into a semi bluff on the turn which is not that many when you take outthe 8 hearts, turned striaghts that he is betting for value along with A2/K2s. I am expecting most random hands that bluffed the river to give up on this river card except possibly for Ax hands that include the Ahearts,AK/AQ. Ran it through poker stove with these results.

—————————————————————————————————————–

SO as i suspected at the time, it is very close but a definite fold with about 31% equity versus his complete range. Im sure that actual equity vs his range is reduced because he gives up some air hands more often than hevbets worse 2s. As it happens I called and he had 67hh. I really like Garry’s line in the hand and his bet sizing seemed near on perfect throughout. I dont know how much im down to garry lifetime, i suspect probably inthe 5/6k region, but I really enjoy playing against him and will not shy away from confrontations with him, and I suspect he knows as much! I think lifetime I might have have had the slightly poorer of the handsagainst him, but maybe he has just had the edge in the play, will be very interesting to see who wins the next battle! If it isnt me then il probs be on garrys door for a loan

Anyway back to my original point lol, the reason I like people like Rob/Faz/Pez/even Marc Wright is they play the game with such a lot of heart and don’t back away from anything, not like the stupid little nits who sitat gala limping JJ mid position and folding to a raise and 3bet, or the SNE donks who play 2.5m hands a year and are just clicking buttons never even thinking about the game. Make a living by all means but poker is asport, that challenges the guys with the guts and the passion like UFC or ICE HOCKEY, upsets me seeing these clowns turn it into the gambling version of WARHAMER!

Thats all from me folks, ESSAY OVER – play safe and get your GAMBLE OOOOONNNNN!

So i went broke. The odd tournaments i played at gala were still keeping me but realistically they didn’t cut it, something had to be done. I had to get backed, i took Jamie and Dave up on a live backing deal, and Ash on an online deal. and so far my life has been so much easier, I was able to withdraw my online rolls so i had some liquid cash and i was able to continue playing poker whenever i wanted. In my eyes i feel like it was the correct move for me.

I would like to talk about this hand and my thought process.

http://www.pokerhandreplays.com/view.php/id/1952938

So far his image has been pretty tight. He has only shown down alot of good hands and i also have him noted as an excessive limp folder. My image has been reasonably tight but i have started to change gears and became more aggressive as we are embarking the bubble.

When he initially makes up the small blind i’m putting him on pretty speculative hands, suited and un suited connectors along with low pocket pairs and high suited 1 gap connectors, even pocket pairs would be funky though because he is more likely to raise into me than make up the BB

After my raise when he calls i feel like his range has become high suited connectors, ragy suited aces, i find that alot of people will call a raise after they have made up because they feel that if they dont they have wasted 1/2 a BB, i dont feel he will ever be strong in this position because at this stage of the tournement he would want to try take down the blinds and antes, not play a hand out of position.

So the flop comes Ks-8d-7h , one diamond to go with my Ad-Qd, and he checks, i feel like the only possible thing he could of hit would be a King or a set at best. I of course “C” bet the flop, he flats. Im pretty sure he is just floating with a strange draw, like 9J, TJ, TQ, 8Q? There the only logical hands i can put him on the rest he is definitely in my eyes raising me.

The turn is the Kd, he checks. I pick up equity and decide to barrel the turn with my new found equity. I also see the second K as blocker for him to ever have a king, it also makes no change to his draw.

The river, Kh. HE JAMS! i just don’t think he is ever doing this with a king & every draw has missed, i guess he could be doing it with an 8 or a 7 but if he has either an 8 or a 7 he has played the hand so strangely and i just don’t believe him.

Simon

xoxo

P.S. Comment to let me know how you feel about this hand.

Hello everyone, sorry not blogged for ages, had a kinda sigh few weeks IRL, been really ill and then had a few family things to take care of.

Gonna Start the blog with a few life beats

life beat #1 – Lost my wallet in a “gentlemans club” went to the bank following day to cancel card and order new one.

life beat #2 – had £0.00 in my current account and because of no ID/online banking down I couldnt transfer money from my e-savings so found myself temporailly broke. Didnt pay electricity bill which was a pretty massive sweat everytime i turned the lights on.

life beat #3 – bank never actually cancelled my card so someone helped themselves to £887.50 worth of VIP tickets to aintree, which went into my overdraft and then bounced my rent, along with £70 worth of fines

life beat #4 – Was intending on playing the HU PLO scoop, but bcause i lent shane lonsdale my account the night before i couldnt, so i wasnt able to take 10% of rob either who shipped for $75k (this was very tilting)

life beat #5 – ran terribly all month at gala and got on the wrong end of some super sick hands.

Moaning out of the way should be miles better now, had some nice sessions live lately and i think the bank card stuff will sort itself out, also got some incredibly cool news i have offcially entered the world of business, and now own my own company called GATEWAY ENTERPRISES and have alredy started doing some work and have a couple of super cool projects upcoming which i will detail in here when they are confirmed!! VERY EXCITING!!

thats all updates to follow!

HU PLO FTOPS tonight, first place likely to equal $56,000 with a $322 buyin. So I reckon i should win this tournament 1/512 times, so when i ship tonight il have run about $52k above EV for the day which will put me $41k up on EV for the year and a healthy $52.k online profit for the year.

wiiiiiiiiii cant wait - starts at 11.00pm tonight and im ridiculously excited, gna play some plo SnGs tonight in readiness!

Had a pretty fucking mental week.

To be honest, i cant even remember the last time I blogged and what i said in it, so either gonna miss some chunks out, or repeat everything either way you’ll all get super bored by re-reading everything i already driveled on about, or you’ll actually not read anything remotely interesting in this blog lol – ITS GONNA BE A GOOD ONE FOLKS

played a ton of live pokers last week and did pretty good, had a really sigh start to the week played in a terrible game all night grinding out about £250 profit, that was until Faz turned up and ade it interesting, so interesting in fact that i left with a £600 loss, LOL ground it all back during the week, then decided to dip my toes in the napoleons pool on the friday night, was going ok i was in for £1k and sat about £1.5k deep when this hand occured…

SB straddled to £10 BB limps i raise UTG QQ to £40, 2 callers back to the SB who makes it £150. I call, Faz calls playing about £1200.

Flops Q65. SBShoves for £550, i call, Faz calls. Turn 2 I shove for £600 faz calls. River 3, Faz reveals the 45o. VERY SIGH and GG £3k lol.

So Saturday went out, and i mean REALLY REALLY went out lol me and rob went out about 10ish and met Andy J/Salfi in Revs. After getting pretty pissed we met up with TommyC and his GUUURRRLFWEND Lorna, from revs we went on to Hifi, where Andy for some fucking reaons tried to get in holding a half full (notice how it isnt half empty lol) pint glass of stella, GOOD GAME sir. As soon as we got into hifi we absolutely destroyed it and before too long joe stevenson had met up with us and the rest of the night as you’ll imagine was fairly hazy in memory, fairly sure it was incredible tho.

Sunday night booked a really nice £1k win down at gala, played incredibley well i think, and played right through until 3pm when i was HU and stacked him. Sometimes with live poker I just get the drive to go and go and go and usually when that happens its either cos im enjoying the game, or cos im loosing loads lol. Another mental night out last tuesday, followed by two days of recovery, another winning night live onthursday night @ gala, so all in all pretty good. Played through untill gone 11am again on friday morning, and then striaght home to play online, man I was SO ill friday/saturday as a result I was sweating, had a headache, stomach ache, even started halucinating, going to take this as a lesson to try keep a more balanced sleep schedule, trying to keep clear of the illness im going to call “LIVEPOKER-ITIS” man its seriously fucking brutal. grrrrr

Decided to crank up the volumes in online hands last week as well and set myself the target of 12,500 hands, which as long as i play some non HU is fairly attainable if you “go for it”. I played about 7k hands of 9max NLHE (great way to just shovel volume in without really needing to think too much) a bit on HU nlhe and some more HUplo. I dunno why but i am running shockingly badly in PLO this year, i reached $10,000 under my Exepected Return last week and its just really frustrating, It’s kinda demoralising when i really want to motor on but just so disheartened with online poker because this year has been so brutal to me. I doze off sometimes and think about how bad i’ve run online this year and feel all desperate about it – but this is really bad for you mentally and I quickly try to just move on stay positive, it’s hard but if you cant do that then high volume poker will send you mental.

Results from online been ok-ish actually had a bad session on sunday which sent me to near break even for the week online, im about $1,300 under EV but im not devestated with break even tbh cos on reflection not sure I’ve even played that well, been making some pretty silly mistakes 3/4 times a session and they expensive! So will be spending tomorrow going over those hands and trying to plug some pretty evident leaks so hopefully this weeks target hand of 8,000 will show me a couple of thousand bucks profit, might even run hot? WHO KNOWS!?!

I’ve been re-creating some cool live hands in my handreplayer and saving some internet hands so I think I might post a ton of hands in my next blog.

Congrats to JACK ELLWOOD jammy mrthrFKr goes about casually winning his SECOND, yes SECOND FTOPS last sunday, shipping the $500 HU Event #8 for $89,000. Well played sit, seriously well played.

Ash has been running pretty hot lately as well and got pretty unlucky HU not to win the $162 6max on pokerstars last sunday, and very UL to Mr. John Eames, who lost a really brutal pot on the FT of FTOPS 9 finishing 8th for $20k, when pez won the sunday brawl back last year, i shipped him $6.49 with 15 ppl left, i did the same to Johne but didnt work, sigh.

Thats about all from me, grinding hard and trying to get Vegas moneys together although finding it kind of hard at the moment. Would hate to miss out, so going to really really grind out this next three weeks.

See ya later everyone, GLGL
