ALRIGHT, JACK!
TAKES A MASSIVE SUNDAY HAUL OVER $290K
Just two weeks ago Jack Ellwood finished 2nd in the Manchester UKIPT for £37,500; a terrific performance. Well that suddenly seems like small change after a distinctly 'Super Sunday' on 21st Feb.
Jack played the Full Tilt FTOPS Main Event, under the nickname 'JackQKA', beating 5644 players to take1st place, a final table deal of $240,000 and a gold makeover for his Full Tilt avatar! (lol) But not only that! He also played the Absolute/UB main Sunday tournament ... and won that too! For another $51,000. It is an incredible feat, one many of his poker peers, amateur and professional, are publicly acknowledging.
Although not a regular Nutz player, Jack and his brother Jamie played in our Summerfest 2008, on the invitation of their fellow student Jamie Sykes. Jack took down our £10 Rebuy, while Jamie took the PLO the following night! Both already played a very advanced style of game and were very personable, intelligent players. Jack has now truly announced his arrival in both the live and online game and everyone at the Nutz should wish him well on his way towards possible poker stardom!
JAMIE SYKES 3RD IN GUKPT BOLTON
A STUNNING £19,000 FOR HIS FIRST GUKPT FINAL TABLE
The new record for a live tournament win by a Nutz player was set on Sunday evening (Jan 24th) by 'have a go pro' Jamie Sykes. He finished 3rd in the Bolton GUKPT Main Event for a juicy £19,000 prize, his best live cash and a great follow up to his £11,000 2nd place in the Coral British Masters Leeds event last year.
Jamie is pretty much a full time pro player these days, building a strong reputation both online and in live games. It seems that his latest success has paved the way for him to play the majority of the GUKPT tour this year - so don't expect this to be the last we hear of him. Well done - and good luck for the rest of the season Jamie!
(And, yes, of course a place in the Nutz Hall of Fame beckons!)
'BIG D' PIPS PETER LEE TO LEAGUE TITLE
UNPRECEDENTED KNOCKOUT TALLY SECURES WIN
For the first time in nearly 3 years a League Champion was effectively decided by aggression. Dave 'Big D' Anderson gathered a massive total of 85 knockouts (over 50 more than any other player) which was the deciding factor for the Autumn League title.
Going into the final tourny of the Autumn League, Dave sat atop with Peter Lee a very close second, either player able to take the title. Despite having a remarkable 13 in the money finishes from just 22 tournies, including 4 wins and 4 second places, Peter couldn't close the gap created by the knockout master Dave. Many congratulation Dave, a well earned victory.
Honourable mention must also go to newcomer, Dave Grayson who performed very well all season finally finishing 3rd, and Dan Jackson who began the season on fire and finished a still creditable 6th. Regulars Ken Vanzo, Ian Hilton, Megan Davies, Chris Dezeeuw, 'Eddy' Edmondson and Ray Iley completed the top 10.
The new Winter League begins Sunday January 3rd.

After a truly fantastic 11+ hours of competition over 2 days the Championship qualifiers were whittled down to just one, your Champion, Mark Boyle!
As expected most of the big stacks going in were still there at Final Table time but none of them could take down the big prize and the big title.
Mark won the £600 first prize, engraved 1oz solid silver card guard ... and title Nutz Champion 2009! See the final list of paricipants and finishers here.
The new season starts on Tuesday 6th October (meanwhile all the normal Tuesday / Friday and Sunday tournies will run) ... check out the Tournament Calendar for information on dates, times, game formats and structures - and all the results.
PETER LEE HEADING TO GUKPT
OVERCOMES 3:1 HEADS UP DEFICIT
After another great GUKPT / DTD Satellite Final Table Peter Lee emerged victorious over a gutted Wes Gill. Peter has decided to use his entry to buy in to the Blackpool leg in November. Wes used his runners-up entry to DTD's £300 Monthly the following day - perhaps inadvisably, 3 hours sleep didn't prepare him well and he exited on Day 1.
The Final Table was full of quality once again with Steve Bolton, Dave Bielby, Kev Newlove, Wes Gill and Olly Stone among the expected front runners. However it was relatively inexperienced Peter Lee who began to command the table with a succession of grade 1 hands ... AA ... errr ... AA ... err ... AA .... you get the picture! But it was nowhere near plain sailing. Olly and Steve battled hard against the cards and unfavourable boards to be strongly competitive but it was Wes who looked strongest and was considered odds-on when going into heads-up 3:1 chip leader. Peter had other ideas and played an aggressive HU game negating Wes's experiential advantage finally sealing a win with an A on board and one in the hole.
Well done Peter and good luck in Blackpool in November. More Club satellites will continue to run - win your way into the GUKPT for only £30 just like Peter!
GUKPT / DTD SATELLITES
'BIB' GOING TO GUKPT MANCHESTER
The pressure's now on for David 'Bib' Bielby who made it through a fine Satellite Final and a heads-up with 'Lil Dave' Nicholson to win the seat at Manchester's GUKPT Main Event. We all know Bib's broad shoulders are up to it .. good luck mate!
The series of Nutz qualifiers continues every week with the next Final Table Satellites sending at least one Nutz member to the Newcastle GUKPT in May and the runner-up to DTD's Monthly £50k GTD. Join in ... and take your shot at playing with the 'big boys'!
Contact the Cardroom on 01423 871267 if you are interested in playing a satellite or buying in direct. Go on ... you never know you might end up moneying in the £1000 GUKPT MAIN EVENT or even winning it for a cool £75,000+!!
